Chillicothe VA Medical Center

The Chillicothe VA Medical Center provides mental health, medical, nursing home, and specialty services to America’s Veterans. The medical center is comprised of more than 25 individual buildings spread over more than 100 acres on the site of the former Camp Sherman, a World War I training facility. The uniformity of the architecture and separation of physical destinations, along with an outdated signage system, resulted in wayfinding issues for both visitors and staff.

Beginning with a thorough analysis of the existing conditions, Swath developed a comprehensive exterior wayfinding program including naming, color coding, and a signage system while closely incorporating input from a team of medical center staff. The resulting solution alleviated wayfinding problems and established a directional system
all while honoring America’s veterans.
