Miami University – Armstrong Student Center

Miami University’s Armstrong Student Center is a multi-floor, multi-use building for students, visitors, and organizations. It is comprised of group study rooms, retail, food, the “red zone,” Esports, theater, pavilion, and atrium assembly areas. A major campus destination, it also houses iconic school elements. The building is architecturally complex and the existing signage neglected to address numerous navigation challenges.

Swath conducted a comprehensive wayfinding audit and analysis. We made recommendation to the university’s wayfinding committee and subsequently designed an effective wayfinding and signage system that embraces the building’s architecture, promotes Miami’s history, and aligns with the Miami brand. As a result, the student center will better enhance student learning, campus engagement, and serve as a safe and inclusive gathering place for students, faculty, staff, alumni, and guests.
