The Eiteljorg Museum, located in downtown Indianapolis, opened a new 45,000-square-foot wing, including an education center, café, and galleries devoted to Western
and Native American contemporary art and beautiful gardens.
Swath conducted a thorough analysis and created a wayfinding master plan that took into consideration maps, interior, exterior and garage signage, sculptural landmark locations, audio systems, information kiosks, promotional banners, web site, printed materials, and the design of the physical space.
The wayfinding system incorporated the use of the same materials and color palette visible throughout the museum building as well as in the art. Earth tones, patterning, and symbols indicative of Native American cultures and the southwest are the foundations of the system.
