The Ohio State University’s new Timashev Family Music Building connects to Weigel Hall – which opened in the late 1970’s – allowing both spaces to be used by the school. There are dedicated studios for jazz and percussion work, as well as practice rooms for students and a large ensemble rehearsal space. Light-filled open spaces provide a place where students, faculty, and staff can meet. The centerpiece of the building is the 195-seat recital hall.
As the project’s wayfinding and signage designers, Swath designers used color, form, and fabrication techniques to personify the concept of sound and music. The results also complement the architectural and interior finishes and carefully work within the university’s existing standards.
